"All in all, I broke one arm and four toes from each foot during my time in the village. One set of toes went when I dived into the river, kicked out at the bottom and kicked the only rock in the whole river. The other set of four went when Morrell threw an old, heavy, cinema seat at my feet and thought I could jump out of the way in time - I couldn't. That second break was aggravated by the fact that my parents were out at the time and I had forgotten my keys and had subsequently to climb up a drainpipe, using my toes, to get into the house through a window!"
