21 November 2000 Leisure Facility [Front Page] [What's On] [Angel Home]

Major Leisure Project Is Underway

Partnership

In an unofficial partnership, representatives from the Broughton Astley
Parish Council, the Harborough District Council (H.D.C.) and the
Leicestershire County Council have been meeting as a Parish Council
Sub-committee to develop plans for a new leisure facility in the village.
They have been supported by staff and governors from Thomas Estley Community College
and by the Broughton Astley Sports Association.

The project has reached a phase in which a group of consultants, Mssrs Knight, Kavanagh
and Page have been appointed to carry out a Feasibility Study, based on a brief from the
Sub-committee, prepared by G. Hammersley of H.D.C.'s Leisure Services section. The report
from the consultants is expected in December 2000.

Sport and Recreation

As envisaged by the consultancy brief, the facility is for both sports and a number of more
broadly social or recreational activities. [List is below.]

Ownership

The leisure facility, if built, will be owned by the Leicestershire County Council, acting as
Landlords, but they will not be able to offer any revenue help with running costs.

Capital Investment

The facility and supporting work may cost in the region of 750,000 to 1,000,000 pounds.
Applications for grants will be made to Sport England, if an eventual decision is made to
proceed with the project.
